Apple pie
Ingredients
- - 6 to 8 apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
- - 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- - 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- - 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- - 1 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces
- - 1 package of refrigerated pie crusts (or homemade pie crust)
- - 1 egg (for egg wash)
Directions
- 1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- 2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss well to coat the apples evenly.
- 3. Roll out one pie crust and place it in a 9-inch pie pan. Fill it with the apple mixture, making sure to distribute it evenly.
- 4. Dot the filling with small pieces of butter.
- 5. Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the filling. Crimp the edges to seal the pie. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- 6. Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush it over the top crust for a golden finish.
- 7. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Then, reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for an additional 35-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the apples are tender.
- 8. Allow the pie to cool for at least 2 hours before slicing and serving.
